Established in 1999, located between two scenic lakes and surrounded by a beautiful park, Pühajärve Spa & Holiday Resort has been Estonians’ beloved holiday site for years. Located in the heart of Otepää’ s national park, the hotel provides a wide range of services/opportunities and has something to offer for every customer - from afternoon business meeting to luxurious health spa holiday. There are 82 twin rooms with all conveniences included, and 7 suites equipped with sauna and full-wall panorama window view opening to the Lake Pühajärv.  

 Since 2004 Pühajärve Spa & Holiday Resort has been recognized with international Green Key label, which is a voluntary eco-label : unlocking sustainability in the hospitality industry. Promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly living among its own staff and customers - living in harmony with the nature. Thus, the most popular package among the visitors is pure relaxation combining spa treatments and locally produced, organic food/ dining experience.

Since 2013 the central heating system of the hotel is running on biofuels. The boiler house is equipped with two boilers and skillfully integrated with the nature and provides energy all year round. There is a 1.5 MW firewood boiler for central heating and 1 MW woodchip boiler for summer months or extra energy consumption during winter.  In addition 400 m2 solar panels located on the hotel’s roof have a capacity of 0.3 MW and covers 2/3 of energy consumption for heating water during summer. Overall, solar power covers 40% of water heating energy consumption.  During winter months extra energy is provided through heat exchanger that takes heat from fumes. Fumes from the boiler enter into the filter with temperature around 200C but exits with 50C.  This integrated heating system is also used as educational purpose in local schools to promote alternative way of thinking in energy production.

 Other environmentally friendly practices in the hotel: energy saving light bulbs and no pesticide use for green areas.

They Pühajärve Spa & Holiday Resort ensures its uniqueness by promoting locally produced organic goods. They have a big network of local suppliers - dairy, bakery, eggs, vegetables/fruits, herbs etc. Consuming locally produced goods helps to develop rural areas and raises environmental awareness among the hotel’ s staff and costumers.

Electricity

In 2005 the hotel replaced all ordinary lamps in the outdoor area with energy saving bulbs (CFL). In 2008 all indoor lamps where replaced with energy saving bulbs.

Energy saving bulbs could help to reduce the electricity consumption for lighting by up to 80%, which equals up to 10% of the overall energy consumption.


Hot Water

400 m2 solar panels located on the hotel’s roof have a capacity of 0.3 MW and covers 2/3 of energy consumption for heating water during summers. Solar power covers 40% of water heating energy consumption.

Solar energy saves approximately 547 tons of firewood a year and reduces 182 tons of ash a year.
